How SkillBridge works
DoD SkillBridge lets service members spend up to their last 180 days of service training or interning with a civilian employer while still drawing military pay and benefits. Employers must be approved SkillBridge partners, and your command has to sign off. Many cyber internships are with defense contractors and managed security providers that hire for SOC roles afterwards. Turning military experience into a blue team resume
- Translate duties into SOC language: watch floors and alert triage, incident reporting, and following runbooks under pressure all map directly to Tier 1 analyst work.
- List your clearance level and its investigation date near the top. Employers filter on it before anything else.
- Many defense roles require a DoD 8140 baseline certification such as Security+. If you don't have one yet, it's usually the first to get.
