How to spot fake security job offers
Fake job offers are a well-worn way to steal money, identity documents and corporate credentials. Security people are not immune: attackers know defenders are curious and keen on new roles.
Warning signs
- You are asked to pay for equipment, training or a background check up front.
- The interview happens only over chat, or the offer arrives before any real interview.
- You are asked for your bank details, passport or Social Security number before a written offer.
- The recruiter writes from a free email address or a domain that only resembles the employer's.
- You are sent a file or a "skills test" to run on your own machine.
